The Clarkstown Vikings put together a total team effort to defeat the Bombers 4–3 and win the Rockland Special Olympics Division 1 Floor-ball Championship in a game that had the feel of a true title classic.

Played at the Town of Haverstraw Recreation Center gym, the 6 p.m. start drew a strong and enthusiastic crowd of proud families, loyal friends, and dedicated volunteers who created a true championship atmosphere.
The Bombers struck quickly, scoring just a minute into the opening period for an early lead. Clarkstown answered minutes later when Jonathon buried a rebound in front of the net to tie the game, and Gordon followed with a goal from the left side to give the Vikings a 2–1 advantage as the team continued rotating players to keep fresh legs on the floor.
Midway through the second period the Vikings’ starting lineup returned and Gordon delivered again, scoring to extend the lead to 3–1. Jonathon kept the pressure on with repeated shots that were turned away by the Bombers’ defense, while in goal Trevor Shaw came up with big save after big save to protect the Clarkstown edge.
The Bombers battled back with a well-executed pass and shot to make it 3–2, then connected on a long pass in the closing moments of the period to even the score at 3–3 and set up a tense final stretch.
With the clock winding down and both teams adjusting their lineups in search of the deciding goal, Clarkstown returned to its starters. Jonathon, Mike E, and Gordon fired shot after shot, testing the Bombers’ defense.
With just under three minutes remaining, Gordon completed the hat trick, scoring the go-ahead goal to put the Vikings in front 4–3.
The closing minutes were played at a frantic pace. A Bombers player was called for a high-sticking penalty, and shortly after Nicky was whistled for the same, leaving both teams a player short. End-to-end action followed, with the goalies forced to be at their best. After the penalties expired with about 40 seconds remaining, the Bombers launched one final push, but Trevor Shaw stood tall in net, turning away every shot as the Vikings poured all their energy into defending the lead.
When the final buzzer sounded, Clarkstown had secured one of the most exciting wins of the season.
The Vikings played without one of their key players, making the victory an even stronger testament to their teamwork and determination. Trevor Shaw’s outstanding performance in goal earned him the Clarkstown MVP Award.
More than just a championship game, the night was a celebration of the spirit of Special Olympics — competition fueled by sportsmanship, encouragement, and community support.
One of the program’s leaders, DDSO Lakers standout Andrew Ryan, summed up that team-first attitude in a message to his coach following the game:
“Thanx coach, I greatly appreciate that and I always try to remain humble and respectful and not make it all about me. Can’t wait for the basketball to start soon enough! ”
