As 2026 gets underway, United Way of Rockland County is continuing its role as a central connector for local nonprofits, volunteers, and families in need, with several seasonal efforts either active or expected to roll out in the coming months.
United Way’s ongoing focus remains on health, education, and financial stability, working behind the scenes with partner agencies across Rockland to support residents facing food insecurity, housing challenges, and financial stress.
One of United Way’s most visible services remains its 2-1-1 Helpline, a free, confidential resource that helps residents find assistance for food, housing, mental health services, utilities, and other essential needs. The helpline operates year-round and often sees increased use during the winter months.
Volunteer programs underway
United Way is also active during tax season through its Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, which helps qualifying low- and moderate-income residents file their taxes at no cost. Trained volunteers assist residents at designated sites in Rockland, with services typically available through late winter and early spring.
In addition, United Way is preparing for its annual Days of Caring, a large-scale volunteer effort that traditionally takes place in late spring or early summer. The event brings together individuals, businesses, and nonprofit organizations to complete hands-on community projects throughout the county. Specific dates and project sign-ups are expected to be announced later this year.
Community partnerships
United Way of Rockland County continues to work closely with local nonprofits, municipalities, and service organizations, acting as a “hub” that helps coordinate resources and avoid duplication of services. This collaborative approach has become increasingly important as many nonprofits face funding pressures and rising demand for services.
Residents interested in volunteering, donating, or learning more about upcoming events are encouraged to follow United Way of Rockland County through its website and social media channels, where new programs and dates are typically announced.
