At approximately 9:00 pm on November 10, 2025 a fire broke out at the Waffle and Crepe on the 2nd floor.
The fire was quickly contained by the West Nyack Fire Department along with Nanuet and Pearl River Departments having sent trucks to the scene.
Assistant Chief McKiernan said that they responded to an automatic alarm. When they got there they found a smoke condition in one of the stores on the 2nd floor. “Members opened up the roll down gate, found a small fire, electrical that extended to the crepe makers inside. They knocked it down with a few extinguishers and right now we’re just ventilating the smoke from the mall.
Why was it a two alarm?
“Well, this is a very large structure as you can see. This door was closed. We didn’t know exactly what it was when we got in there, so it takes a lot of time for guys to get here, get set up. We got to set up a fire department connection for the standpipes, which is all very labor inducive. It takes a lot of time and a lot of manpower to get that all set up and in play, so we want to get ahead of the game and call them earlier than later.”
So no hoses or anything, just fire extinguishers?
No, we did stretch a hose up there and we did have to use it.

McKiernan hadn’t gone up there so he couldn’t give me an accurate answer as to how big the fire was.
Preliminary reports was that it was an electrical fire in the small restaurant.
I spoke with one of the firefighters and said, “It couldn’t happen on a warm night.” He replied, “It would have to happen on the first cold night. At least it didn’t happen at three in the morning.”
More details will be published as they become available.
