On December 9, 2025, at approximately 8:56 p.m., troopers assigned to the State Police Hawthorne barracks initiated a traffic stop in the area of mile marker 6.0 on the Sprain Brook Parkway in the town of Greenburgh for a reported stolen plate that was broadcasted by the Westchester County Real Time Crime (RTC).
The vehicle, a 2020 Maxima, initially stopped, then failed to comply and fled the traffic stop. The vehicle continued southbound, striking three Westchester County patrol vehicles before coming to rest. The operator, identified as George Evangelista, 54, of Bronx, N.Y., fled on foot and was quickly taken into custody by officers on scene.
Evangelista was transported to a local medical facility for non-life-threatening injuries. He was released to State Police and charged with the following:
• Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, a class A misdemeanor
• Three counts Criminal Mischief: Reckless Property Damage Greater Than $250, a class A misdemeanor
• Criminal Possession Stolen Property 5th Degree, a class A misdemeanor
• Obstruct Governmental Administration 2nd: Prevent Official Function, a class A misdemeanor
• Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, a class A misdemeanor
• Multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations
Evangelista was turned over to the New York Police Department for an active warrant.
