TRAFFIC STOP IN HAVERSTRAW RESULTS IN ARREST FOR POSSESSION OF LOADED ILLEGAL FIREARM

On March 27, 2026, at approximately 9:37 p.m., members of the Haverstraw Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Route 9W in West Haverstraw.

A subsequent investigation determined that one of the vehicle’s occupants was illegally in possession of a loaded firearm. The individual, identified as Kamani A. Atterbury, age 20, of Spring Valley, was taken into custody and transported to the Haverstraw Police Department for processing.

Atterbury has been charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (loaded firearm), Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (large capacity ammo feeding device), and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.

The defendant was arraigned in the Village of West Haverstraw Justice Court where he released on his own recognizance.

The Haverstraw Police Department was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
