The Town of Ramapo is organizing a Family Assistance Initiative to support a local family displaced by a devastating house fire in Airmont last Saturday.

The fire forced a family that includes a 10th-grade and a 6th-grade student from the Suffern Central School District from their home, leaving them without many essential belongings.

Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht and Police Chief Dan Hyman are supporting the relief effort, which is focusing primarily on the collection of gift cards to local department stores to help the family begin replacing items lost in the fire.

Community members who are able and willing to assist are asked to drop off donations at the Town of Ramapo Supervisor’s Office, located at 237 Route 59 in Suffern, during normal business hours on Friday, January 30, 2026.

All donated items will be delivered to the Suffern High School Family Resource Center for distribution to the affected family. Town officials thanked Suffern High School for initiating and coordinating the effort.

Supervisor Specht and Chief Hyman also expressed appreciation to Town of Ramapo employees who have already committed to supporting the post-fire relief initiative, noting that their generosity reflects the strength of the community.
