Press Release
On November 18, 2025, The New York State Police Troop F Orange County Child Abuse Unit announce the arrest of Zenaida Soriano-Rincon, age 33, of Middletown, NY for Manslaughter 2nd Degree, Recklessly Cause Death, a Class C Felony.
The investigation began on September 19, 2025, after an unresponsive 2-year-old was taken to a healthcare facility located on Benton Avenue in the City of Middletown. The City of Middletown Police Department responded to the scene and subsequently transported the child to Garnet Health Medical Center.
The New York State Police assumed the investigation, and the victim was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the child had been left unattended in an unoccupied vehicle for over eight hours while Soriano-Ricon was at work. The location of the vehicle and the temperatures inside the unventilated car ultimately resulted in the death of the 2-year-old victim.
The two-month investigation was conducted in collaboration with Troop F Major Crimes Unit, State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at Middletown, BCI at Montgomery, and Orange County Child Protective Services.
The State Police was assisted by City of Middletown Police Department.
Soriano-Ricon was arrested and processed at State Police Middletown on November 18, 2025, and arraigned at Orange County Court Central Arraignment Part. Soriano-Ricon was remanded to Orange County Jail with bail set at $250,000.00 bail, $500,000 bond, $1,000,000 partially secured bond.
