Clarkstown, NY — Clarkstown Highway Superintendent candidate Rob Sambevski today addressed his recent reassignment and the loss of his town-issued work phone and assigned town vehicle, describing the actions as what appears to be politically motivated retaliation following his decision to run for Clarkstown Highway Superintendent.
“For 13 years, I have proudly served the residents of Clarkstown,” Sambevski said. “Since Bob Milone became Highway Superintendent, he has never found cause to write me up or discipline me. In fact, he approved my annual performance increments every year and praised my work ethic. The only thing that has changed is that I decided to run for Clarkstown Highway Superintendent and speak publicly about what I believe to be years of mismanagement by Bob Milone.”
Sambevski noted that since announcing his campaign, his town-issued work phone has been taken away twice, he has been reassigned, and his assigned town vehicle has been taken away.
“The timing of these actions raises serious concerns and, based on the circumstances, appears to be politically motivated,” Sambevski said. “Public employees should never face adverse treatment simply because they choose to run for public office.
I believe these actions appear intended to silence me for speaking out and continuing my campaign, raising serious concerns about my First Amendment rights.”
“I won’t be intimidated, and I won’t be silenced,” Sambevski said. “I will continue speaking out, continue my campaign, and continue educating our residents about how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent. Ultimately, the residents of Clarkstown will decide who should serve as their next Highway Superintendent this November.”
