SUFFERN, N.Y. (June 15, 2026) – Rockland Community College is proud to announce that three members of the RCC community have been recognized as recipients of scholarships awarded by the Rockland Business Women’s Network (RBWN) during its 2026 Women of Achievement celebration. The scholarships recognize women who have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, perseverance, and a commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.
Among the recipients is Maylin Alarcon a first-generation Latina college student pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree with aspirations of earning an MD-Ph.D. and advancing the fields of neurosurgery and neuroscience research. Her academic journey reflects a passion for combining medicine and scientific discovery to improve patient care and deepen an understanding of the brain. She received a scholarship in the amount of $2,000.
Elizabeth Bourmatnov, a nursing student at Rockland Community College, was also recognized for her dedication to education, service, and lifelong learning. While balancing full-time employment, family responsibilities, and her nursing studies, Bourmatnov has remained actively involved in volunteer and fundraising efforts supporting healthcare and community organizations. Her goal is to become a registered nurse and build a second career centered on compassionate patient care.
Also receiving a scholarship was Jennifer Mancuso, an RCC nursing student and Senior Director of the Interfaith Prison Partnership. Through years of advocacy, restorative justice initiatives, family support programming, and reentry services, Mancuso has dedicated her career to serving vulnerable populations. She is pursuing nursing to combine healthcare, healing, and social justice advocacy in support of individuals facing significant barriers to care. Both Bourmatnov and Mancuso received $2,500 scholarships that were sponsored by the Rockland Industrial Developmental Agency.
“We are incredibly proud of these outstanding students and the dedication they have demonstrated in both their academic and personal pursuits,” said Dr. William P. Mullaney, President of Rockland Community College. “Their stories exemplify resilience, leadership, and a commitment to serving others. We are grateful to the Rockland Business Women’s Network for investing in the future of our students and helping them achieve their educational and professional goals.”
“RBWN is incredibly proud to continue investing in the education and future leadership of women in our community. Through our Women of Achievement Luncheon, we were honored to award four $2,000 RBWN scholarships and two $2,500 Rockland IDA scholarships to deserving students, three from RCC. These scholarships reflect the heart of our mission: supporting women as they pursue their professional goals and contributing to the economic vitality of Rockland County,” stated RBWN president Simone HoSang-Jordan.
