FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Over 150 Seniors have been recruited and will report for duty at Meals on  Wheels Senior Boot Camp! This year’s event will also celebrate America’s 250th.

Rockland County, NY – March 12, 2026 – A favorite annual event of our Senior Activity  Center members is set, and they are ready to report for duty. The 2026 Senior Boot Camp will  take place on Thursday, March 26th, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM, at the Dominican University  Hennessy Center in Blauvelt, NY. We anticipate welcoming over 150 Meals on Wheels  members from our five senior centers across Rockland County: Clarkstown-Pearl River, Haverstraw, Nyack, Orangetown and Ramapo.

The morning will kick-off with the Rockland County Marine Corps who will do The Presentation  of Colors and play the National Anthem. Speakers include Rockland County Executive, Ed Day  and Rockland County Office for the Aging Director, Cheryl Ward. Senior recruits will then enjoy  competing in a variety of games and activities from Axe Throwing to Granny Pants. There will  be 40 vendors attending the event for Seniors to engage with and browse services. The event  concludes with lunch and dancing to a lively DJ.

This year’s event will keep in the Spirit of ’76 as we celebrate America’s 250th year. Kevin  Hardy, President and CEO shares “While our Senior Activity Center members always look  forward to Boot Camp, when we told them this year the theme is Americas 250th, they were  thrilled. This generation is so patriotic and enjoys celebrating America, they can’t wait for  March 26th!” Senior participants will all be wearing a vibrant red patriotic t-shirt,  commemorating the event, courtesy of our t-shirt sponsor, Jessica Kiely, PC Estate Planning &  Elder Law.

With our partners at Dominican University, our Seniors will have fun participating in different  challenges alongside university students and student athletes. Intergenerational engagement  plays a crucial role in fostering a sense of community and helping to combat isolation and  loneliness among older adults. Meals on Wheels Senior Activity Centers is a program supported  in part by the Rockland County Office for the Aging, the New York State Office for the Aging, the  Administration on Aging and the County of Rockland.
