OSSINING, NY – A new poll released today by VoteVets shows Army Combat Veteran and Candidate for NY-17 Cait Conley leading in the primary election by 7 points.
In the initial ballot, Cait Conley leads at 29%, followed by Davidson (22%), Effie Phillips-Staley (6%), Mike Sacks (4%), and John Cappello (2%), with 38% of voters still undecided. After hearing more about the candidates, Cait’s lead jumps to 20 points (44%).
“The momentum we are feeling on the ground is palpable,” said Cait Conley. “This poll confirms what we already know: NY-17 voters are ready for a real fighter and real leader – someone who grew up in the Hudson Valley and spent their career putting their life on the line to defend our country, not another career political operative and politician like Mike Lawler. We’re fighting to lower costs for Hudson Valley families, hold big pharma and monopoly utilities accountable, and protect our democracy from those that seek to exploit it for their own gain. With less than 4 weeks to go, we are not taking our foot off the gas for one minute.”
Cait has earned the support of New York’s teacher’s union (NYSUT), the Putnam County Democratic Committee, the Dutchess County Democratic Committee, as well as the Democratic Town Committees of North Castle, Ossining, Peekskill, Mount Kisco, Kent, Pound Ridge, Cortlandt, and Lewisboro, and dozens of other current and former local leaders as well as Congressman Pat Ryan (NY-18) and Former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, in addition to more than a dozen national Democratic and progressive organizations, including VoteVets, LGBTQ+ Victory Fund, NRDC Action Fund, and New Dems Action Fund.
About Cait Conley:
Cait Conley is a fourth-generation Hudson Valley native and the daughter of a postal worker and a construction worker. She is a decorated combat veteran and national security expert who has spent her life answering the call to serve. That call began on 9/11, when, as a junior in high school, she watched the Twin Towers fall. The next day, she started the process for applying to West Point — earning acceptance and becoming the first in her family to graduate from college and then going on later to attend graduate programs at Harvard and MIT. Cait served 16 years as an active duty Army officer, deploying six times to take down the world’s most dangerous terrorists, and later led counterterrorism efforts on the National Security Council and at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Throughout her career, Cait has been called upon to solve the toughest problems and fix things that are broken. That’s why Cait is running for Congress — to fix a broken system and fight for a better future for New Yorkers.
