Supermarket owner & small business advocate backs former federal prosecutor, citing her commitment to combating retail theft, restoring public safety, and protecting New York’s neighborhood businesses
NEW YORK, NY – Saritha Komatireddy, candidate for New York Attorney General, today announced the endorsement of Carlos Collado, owner of multiple Fine Fare supermarkets in the Bronx, Vice President of the Bodega and Small Business Group, member of the National Supermarkets Association, and a prominent advocate for New York City’s small business and supermarket communities.

The endorsement reflects growing frustration among immigrant business owners over rampant shoplifting, repeat offenders, and the failure of elected officials to address the public safety challenges threatening small businesses, many of which are immigrant-owned, across New York.

“Supermarket owners know firsthand what is happening on our streets. We see it every day – the theft, the crime, and the challenges facing small businesses and the neighborhoods we serve. We need an Attorney General who understands that keeping our communities safe means standing with the small businesses that are the backbone of New York. Saritha has the experience, she listens, and she understands what our communities need. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Saritha Komatireddy for Attorney General,” said Carlos Collado.

Komatireddy, a former federal prosecutor who spent 12 years prosecuting terrorists, drug traffickers, and other dangerous criminals, has made restoring public safety and refocusing the Attorney General’s office on law enforcement central pillars of her campaign.

“New York’s supermarkets and bodegas are more than businesses. They’re neighborhood institutions, economic engines and absolute lifelines for the communities they serve,” said Komatireddy. “Yet for too long, the hardworking men and women, many of them immigrants, behind their counters have been abandoned by leaders who seem more interested in protecting their political careers than protecting New Yorkers. Carlos has been a tireless advocate for these business owners, and I’m honored to have his support. As Attorney General, I will use the full authority of the office to combat organized retail theft, hold repeat offenders accountable, and make New York a place where small businesses can thrive without living in fear.”

The endorsement comes as Komatireddy continues to build support among New Yorkers demanding a return to the core responsibilities of the Attorney General’s office: enforcing the law, protecting victims, combating fraud, and keeping communities safe.
