LAWLER APPLAUDS HOUSE PASSAGE OF PROTECTING AMERICA’S WORKFORCE ACT

Washington, D.C. – 12//25… Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after the House passed H.R. 2550, the Protecting America’s Workforce Act. Congressman Lawler (NY-17) was the 218th signature on Discharge Petition 6, which advanced the bill to the House floor.  “I was proud to support the Protecting America’s Workforce Act, which restores long-standing collective bargaining rights for the career public servants who keep our government running. This bipartisan bill reaffirms a simple principle: supporting workers and delivering good government go hand in hand. I’m grateful to my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for coming together to get this done for the men and women who serve our country every day,” said Congressman Lawler. The bill reverses a prior executive order that stripped collective bargaining protections from workers across multiple federal agencies, including the Departments of Defense, State, Veterans Affairs, Justice, and Energy, as well as certain employees in other key departments. The order affected roughly 67% of the federal workforce, many of whom are veterans or career public servants in non–national security roles.   Congressman Lawler is one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, which is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was rated the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress, 8th overall, surpassing dozens of committee chairs.   ###
