| Komatireddy: Empire Center Report Confirms Failure of James’ Medicaid Fraud Unit |
| NEW YORK, NY – Crime-fighting New York State attorney general candidate Saritha Komatireddy today issued the following statement after the Empire Center released an analysis of federal data showing New York’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit ranked among the worst in the nation under Attorney General Letitia James “The Empire Center’s report confirms what we’ve been saying for months: New York’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit has failed under Letitia James. Despite overseeing the nation’s second largest Medicaid program, New York ranked 49th in investigations and 51st in indictments and convictions. Those are not rankings any New Yorker should accept. Just days after the unit lost its certification because of poor performance, it’s clear that years of failed leadership have left taxpayers and vulnerable patients paying the price. As Attorney General, I’ll rebuild this unit, add 20 criminal prosecutors, aggressively pursue fraud, protect patients and seniors from abuse, and recover taxpayer dollars. New Yorkers deserve an Attorney General who is focused on fighting crime and protecting the public—not chasing political headlines.” |
