The South Orangetown Central School District is seeking a candidate to work in their fast-paced Safety, Security, and Compliance Department. The work is specialized, diverse and can be complex in nature.

The Director of Safety, Security, and Compliance provides district-wide leadership in the development, implementation, and monitoring of comprehensive safety, security, health, and regulatory compliance systems for students, staff, and the community. The position oversees contracted security services, coordinates emergency management planning and training, and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements. The director works closely with school administrators, facility/transportation directors, and external partners, including the Orangetown Police Department to maintain safe, secure, and well-prepared schools.

The work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Superintendent for Business and Operations.

AVAILABILITY:July 15, 2026

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science or a related field plus two (2) years of work experience which included responsibility for the enforcement of safety standards and procedures or the evaluation of the effectiveness of safety devices, protective equipment and/or safety programs in order to optimally control or reduce hazards and exposures that would be detrimental to people, property and environment;or
  • An Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science or a related field and four (4) years of the above experience.

Other Requirements and Information:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in school safety, security, health, compliance, or a closely related field, preferably in a K-12 public school setting.
  • New York State administrative certification (SBL, SDL, and/or SDBL), or eligibility for.
  • Civil service examination requirements have been waived for this position as part of the NY HELPS Local program. Candidates must only meet the minimum qualifications for consideration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of school safety, emergency management, environmental compliance, and occupational health requirements.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits are competitive with the public sector market including but not limited to the following:

  • $105,000 – $150,000 Annual Salary (as of 6/29/2026) commensurate with experience
  • includes benefits, vacation, holiday, sick pay
  • NYSERS pensionable
