The Rockland BOCES is seeking a candidate to work in their fast-paced health and safety program. This specialized work is of a moderately complex nature and involves assisting in the application of federal, state, and local regulatory requirements regarding health and safety standards applicable to schools. The incumbent will plan, schedule, and conduct health and safety inspections at selected work sites within the participating school districts.

The work is performed under the general supervision of senior level staff, who provide work direction and assistance as needed.

Key responsibilities include providing technical assistance and advice to school administrators to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations; performing inspections such as asbestos, fire, safety, hazardous materials, and structural assessments; conducting training sessions for school personnel on topics such as bloodborne pathogens, asbestos awareness, emergencies, and tool safety; performing sample testing for indoor air quality, lead in water, asbestos, soil, hazardous materials, and radon; inventorying and preparing chemicals for waste disposal, including categorizing, labeling, and packing; and preparing and submitting required reports to federal, state, and local agencies.

Minimum Qualifications:

An Associate’s degree or higher which included fifteen (15) credit hours in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field or a minimum of sixty (60) college credits which included fifteen (15) credit hours in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or a related field.

  • Civil service examination requirements have been waived for this position as part of the NY HELPS Local program. Candidates must only meet the minimum qualifications for consideration.

Salary and benefits are competitive with the public sector market including but not limited to the following:
