The Jawonio Foundation hosted its 6th Annual Virtual Gala yesterday, bringing together hundreds of supporters in Rockland and Westchester counties to celebrate the organization’s mission of providing care, services, and opportunities for children and adults with developmental disabilities and special needs.

Founded in 1972, Jawonio has grown from a small community program into a comprehensive network of services that includes education, residential programs, recreational activities, and creative arts. The agency emphasizes empowering individuals with disabilities to live fulfilling lives, fostering independence, social engagement, and lifelong learning.

The gala, livestreamed from New City, featured speeches from organizers, celebratory videos, and acknowledgments of donors and volunteers. While the final fundraising total has not yet been announced, preliminary tallies suggest strong community support, and the donation portal on jawonio.org remains open for contributions.

Organizers said the event highlighted the importance of private donations, noting:

Funds raised from the gala directly support programs not fully covered by state funding — including sensory services, recreational and art programs, and campus improvements — helping hundreds of children and adults live more engaged and independent lives.

Looking Forward

Jawonio’s future remains focused on expanding services, maintaining quality programs, and embracing innovation in care. With continued community support, the foundation plans to strengthen educational and recreational programs, upgrade facilities, and enhance technology access for participants.

For those who missed the gala, the online donation portal remains active at jawonio.org. Organizers encourage the community to continue contributing and supporting the mission of providing life-changing opportunities to those with developmental disabilities.
