Introducing Rockland Post’s New Cold Case Section

Rockland County has its share of mysteries — cases that time has not erased, and questions that have lingered for decades. Families still grieve, communities still wonder, and the details remain shrouded in uncertainty. Now, the Rockland Post is shining a light on these stories.

We will be posting new Cold Case Files as we investigate and revisit unsolved cases from across the county. From decades-old murders to disappearances that never made headlines, we’ll explore what investigators know, what remains unknown, and how the community can play a role in uncovering the truth. These aren’t just stories of the past — they are stories of memory, justice, and the hope that answers can still be found.

Some cases stalled because evidence was limited, witnesses moved away, or investigative tools simply didn’t exist yet. Others may have been forgotten entirely — until now. Through reporting, archival photos, video, and public records, our goal is to bring these cases back into public view. We’re not here to sensationalize, but to remember, inform, and give voice to those who have waited too long for answers.

We’ll begin our series with one of Rockland’s most haunting cold cases: the 1974 murder of 15-year-old Lisa Thomas of Nanuet. Her story is a stark reminder of why these files matter, and how community memory can keep hope alive even after decades.

Stay tuned. Because in Rockland County, justice may not have an expiration date — but it can’t be found if the stories remain untold.
