Protect Yourself and Your Loved Ones from the Flu, COVID-19, and RSV

NEW CITY, NY, – Flu season has started earlier than usual in New York State and the Rockland County Department of Health (RCDOH) encourages residents to get recommended flu and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) vaccines before the holidays.
On October 26, 2026, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) announced an early start to flu season and declared influenza widespread across the state. To help residents stay protected, the RCDOH will offer a free flu vaccination clinic:
Robert Yeager Health Center: 50 Sanatorium Road, Pomona, Building A Exhibition Hall
- Friday, November 6th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
As National Influenza Vaccination Week approaches, December 7-13, 2026, the RCDOH reminds residents that vaccines help prevent serious illness and hospitalization. Getting vaccinated now can help protect you and your family during holiday gatherings.
“Vaccination is one of the best ways to protect yourself and your loved ones during the holiday season,” said Dr. Mary Leahy, Rockland County Commissioner of Health. “I encourage everyone to talk with their healthcare provider about which vaccines are right for them.”
Who should get vaccinated?
- Flu: Everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated each year.
- COVID-19: Recommendations depend on age and health. Talk with your healthcare provider.
- RSV: Recommended for adults ages 75 and older, adults ages 50-74 at increased risk, and certain pregnant people.
Residents can get vaccinated at a local pharmacy or through their healthcare provider. The flu vaccine takes about two weeks to provide full protection, so get vaccinated today!
Along with vaccination, residents can take simple steps to stay healthy and help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses:
- Wash hands often with soap and water.
- Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.
- Stay home when sick and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Improve indoor airflow by opening windows when possible.
- Get enough sleep, stay active, drink plenty of water, and eat healthy foods.
- Consider wearing a well-fitting mask in crowded indoor spaces.
