EDITORIAL: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PROTESTNG IN THE USA AND THE NO KINGS PROTESTS

BY: Keith S. Shikowitz, Editor in Chief, Investigative Reporter

I am writing this editorial from the view point of a former history teacher, a social scientist and an American citizen. This has no political leaning or support for one side or the other. This is strictly a factual informative statement from an historical and Constitutional point of view.

Protesting has been the way Americans have let our government know they are not happy with it or its policies even before the writing of the Constitution in 1787 and the addition of the Bill of Rights in 1791. Before the American Revolution we actually had a king to protest against. He and the government put down those protests because under a monarch, there is NO RIGHT to protest.

Look at what happened to the Iranian people who protested against their government, over 10,000 were gunned down in the streets, and the Iranian Republican Guard even went into the hospitals and EXECUTED those who were only wounded. They even hung one of their national wrestling champions because he protested against the government. We also can’t forget Tiananmen Square in 1989. Thousands of Chinese citizens were killed by the COMMUNIST government for protesting.

Protesting has gotten changes made to our Constitution like women and 18-year-olds getting the right to vote, and the passage of the 18th Amendment making the production, sale and consumption of alcohol illegal.

There is a reason the right to PEACEFULLY protest is in the FIRST AMENDMENT… the Founding Fathers felt that the freedom of speech and the other rights in that amendment are the most important to our CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC.

People who are opposed to President Trump keep saying that he is a king, a tyrant, Nazi, Hitler and anything else they can call him that insinuates that he is a dictatorial leader. They say that he is going to do everything he can to stay in power even after his Constitutional term is over.

If he was going to do this, he would have done it in 2020 when he lost the election to Biden. He had his feelings about the election, but he left the White House allowing the PEACEFUL TRANSFER of power and went back to his private life.

In conclusion, people need to keep this in mind. If President Trump (or any president) really wanted to be a king and was acting like one, these NO KINGS protests that happened months ago would NOT have happened and the ones scheduled for March 28, 2026, would NOT be happening. They would be put down, the second they formed up and the people would be arrested at minimum.
