Also Celebrates 36th Anniversary of Americans with Disabilities Act
NEW CITY, NY – Rockland County Executive Ed Day has officially proclaimed the month of July as Disability Pride Month and recognized July 26, 2026, as the 36th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), reaffirming the County’s commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and equal opportunity for residents of all abilities.
“Disability Pride Month is a time to recognize the achievements, contributions, and resilience of individuals with disabilities while reaffirming our commitment to creating a county where everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” said County Executive Day. “As we also mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we celebrate the progress that has been made and remain committed to removing barriers so every resident can fully participate in community life.”
Observed in July, Disability Pride Month celebrates disability as a natural and valuable part of human diversity while recognizing the important contributions individuals with disabilities make to every aspect of society.
The ADA, signed into law on July 26, 1990, established landmark civil rights protections to ensure equal access to employment, public services, transportation, telecommunications, and public accommodations.
“The Office for People with Disabilities is committed to promoting access, independence, and inclusion for all residents,” said Dana Thiesing, Director of the Rockland County Office for People with Disabilities. “Disability Pride Month is a chance to recognize the many ways individuals with disabilities enrich Rockland County and reinforce the importance of a community where everyone can thrive.”
Rockland County encourages residents to recognize the contributions of individuals with disabilities and support efforts that enhance accessibility and inclusion throughout the community.
