Pomona, NY — The Boulders racked up their four straight win, outlasting the Sussex County Miners (4-5), 10-9 in 11 innings on Sunday afternoon at Clover Stadium.
New York (7-2) made it six come-from-behind wins already this season, prevailing in a 4-hour, 14-minute marathon that featured three lead changes and four ties.
SS Fritz Genther belted his fifth home run of the series, a two-run blast in the bottom of the first inning after the Boulders had fallen behind, 1-0.
The teams traded two-spots in the third and a run apiece in the fourth inning – 1B Dan
Tauken and 3B Norris McClure each drove in a run before LF Henry Garcia swatted his first big fly as a Boulder to put the home team ahead, 5-4.
It was 7-4 after C Jack Scanlon – celebrating his 25th birthday – cracked a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth (the Boulders’ 13th round-tripper of the series), but the Miners scored three times in the sixth to make it 7-7.
New York then needed to rally from 8-7 down in the 9th inning and 9-8 in the 10th – with DH for-the-day Garrett Cooper collecting an RBI double to force sudden death – before taking the field with RHP Tyler Vail (W, 1-0) on the mound.
The reigning Frontier League Relief Pitcher of the Year turned an attempted sacrifice bunt with men on first and second into a nifty 1-6 force out at third base, then struck out the final two Sussex County hitters to secure the victory.
The Boulders open their first road trip of the season tomorrow (Monday) with a 1:00pm
EDT first pitch in Ottawa vs. the Titans on Victoria Day in Canada. The teams have Tuesday off, then complete the series with a pair of 11:00am starts on Wednesday and Thursday.
Also of note:
- For the fourth straight game and sixth time on the home stand, every Boulders batter
reached base at least once - The Boulders are 2-0 in extra innings, 2-0 in day games, and 4-2 in games decided by
one run
