Pomona, NY — The Boulders made it two series victories in as many tries this season,
taking their rubber game Thursday night at Clover Stadium against the Ottawa Titans,
8-7.
New York (4-2) sent 11 men to the plate and erupted for six runs in the bottom of the
first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from 2B Santino Rosso and CF John
Schroeder’s two-run single.
The Titans (4-2) came right back with a four-run second against LHP Garrett Peters
(ND / 4 IP, 5 R (4 ER), 7 H, 2 BB, 5 K), who was making his professional debut.
C Jack Scanlon delivered what would, ultimately, be the decisive blow –- a third
inning, two-run 421-foot blast beyond the flag poles in right center field to make it
8-4.
Ottawa got a run closer in the fourth inning, then made things almost too interesting
in the top of the ninth – scoring twice off RHP Tyler Vail (Save #1) before leaving the
bases loaded.
The Boulders continue their season-opening nine-game home stand this weekend,
with the Sussex County Miners in for a 7:00 pm start tomorrow (Friday), then 6:30 pm
on Saturday, and 1:00 pm Sunday.
Also of note:
- The quartet of Scott Harper, Cobe Reeves, Ethan Bradford (W, 1-0), and Jalon Long
combined for four innings of two-hit, two-walk, four strikeout scoreless relief - SS Fritz Genther, RF Aaron Simmons, and 3B Norris McClure scored in every game
of the series, combining for 13 runs in the three games (and four tonight) - For the third time this season, every batter in the Boulders’ starting lineup reached
base at least once
