Pomona, NY — The New York Boulders (1-1) picked up their first win of the
season, rolling over the Brockton Rox, 7-3, at Clover Stadium.
New York drew first blood on C Jack Scanlon’s two-run homer in the
bottom of the second inning, but Brockton (1-1) pulled even in the top of the
third on a two-run jack by C Derek Bender — the only damage the Rox
could muster against winning pitcher Garrett Cooper (1-0 / 5 IP, 2 R, 3 H, 2
BB, 3 K).

The Boulders took the lead for good in the home third, when 3B Santino
Rosso’s bases loaded infield single scored SS Fritz Genther.
The red, white, and blue got an RBI double from Scanlon in the fifth to make
it 4-2, then put the game out of reach with three runs in the sixth,
highlighted by RBI singles for RF Aaron Simmons and DH Dan Tauken.
RHP Jalon Long pitched the final three frames for the save (1 R, 3 H, 0 BB, 6
K) in his Boulders debut.

Also of note:

  • Genther racked up three doubles and scored twice
  • Simmons was on base four times
  • 2B Kyle Hess reached four times and scored his fourth run of the season
  • The Boulders had every batter reach base at least once
