Pomona, NY — The Boulders erupted for seven runs in the bottom of the eighth
inning, rallying past the New Jersey Jackals 9-8 at Clover Stadium on Tuesday
afternoon for their eighth come-from-behind win of the season.
New York (10-4) fell behind 2-0 in the first and trailed 4-0 in the top of the
fourth before halving the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly
by LF Dan Tauken and RBI double off the bat of 2B Tom Radigan, who was
making his Boulders debut.
New Jersey (7-6) led 5-2 after six, but the home team would send 12 men to the
plate in the eighth, taking full advantage of two walks and three hit batters;
Tauken and Radigan each drove in their second run of the day, while 3B Santino
Rosso, CF John Schroeder, 1B Norris McClure, SS Fritz Genther, and RF Aaron
Simmons added an RBI apiece.
RHP Anthony Leak (W, 2-2) threw two hitless innings after LHP Isaac Rohde (ND
/ 5 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 8 K) struck out a season-high eight Jackals in relief of RHP
Garrett Cooper (ND / 1 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 1 K).
RHP Tyler Vail – in a non-save situation – gave up three runs (two earned) in
the top of the ninth to account for the final margin.
The middle game of the series is scheduled for 10:30am EDT tomorrow
(Wednesday), marking the final “School Day” game of the year.
Also of note:
- Rosso’s 8th inning RBI single extended his hitting streak to 10 games (18-for-41 / .439)
- The Boulders’ 9-2 record at Clover Stadium is their best to start a season since 2017
