Pomona, NY — The Boulders improved to 8-2 at Clover Stadium this season,
doubling up the Trois-Rivières Aigles, 4-2, on Friday night.
New York (9-4) scratched out a run in the bottom of the second inning on a two out RBI single by C Jack Scanlon – who extended his hitting streak to five games — then fell behind in the top of the fourth when Trois-Rivières (5-8) scored two runs against LHP Alex Barker (W, 1-0 / 6 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 3 BB, 3 K).
But the Boulders picked the lefty up with a two-spot in the bottom of the fourth,
which started on DH Aaron Simmons’ game-tying leadoff homer and saw the
home team take the lead for good three batters later on a ribby groundout by LF
Dan Tauken.
The final run of the night scored in the fifth, after CF Henry Jr. Garcia led off with
a double and came home on an RBI single by SS Fritz Genther.
Barker finished with his first “quality” start and first win as a Boulder, saved by
RHP Tyler Vail (Save #2), who struck out the side in the ninth.
The middle game of the series is scheduled for 6:30pm EDT tomorrow
(Saturday), which is Irish Heritage Night at the ballpark.
Also of note:
- Vail, LHP Ethan Bradford, and RHP Jalon Long combined for three hitless
innings of relief, with one walk and seven strikeouts. - 2B Santino Rosso (3-for-4) extended his hitting streak to nine games and
scored at least one run for the sixth consecutive game
