New Yorkers are exhausted by living in a city where random acts of violence and identity-based attacks have become commonplace and the norm. Make no mistake: whether this was driven by hate, mental illness, or both, the result is the same – innocent people were stabbed on the streets of Manhattan in the middle of the afternoon. New Yorkers should never have to wonder whether they will be attacked while walking through their neighborhood or leaving their place of worship. These horrific, gruesome acts of violence thrive in a culture and system that enables this to happen over and over again.
