Albertus Magnus High School has a long, proud history of girls athletics, and their accomplishments stretch back decades. While recent state championships in soccer and basketball have drawn deserved praise, the roots of this success go much farther back – and the impact of these teams deserves even greater recognition in the community.
Girls Soccer: A Legacy of Excellence
The Lady Falcons’ soccer program has been strong for over 30 years, winning 16 Section championships and 4 New York State championships. State Titles: • 2022 NYS Class A Champions – one of the early peaks in their recent era. • 2024 & 2025 Class AA Champions – back-to-back state titles for the Lady Falcons.
These teams haven’t just won titles – they’ve been nationally ranked, produced multiple All-State and All-American players, and helped graduates like Gabby Chan and Teigan Cunnane go on to collegiate soccer careers.
Beyond wins, the girls soccer team engages with the community – from uplifting local youth through programs like Buddy Ball to raising funds for breast cancer research at annual Pink Games – underscoring the leadership and character of these young women both on and off the field.
Girls Basketball: Historical Champions
Long before the recent state titles, Albertus Magnus girls basketball had already made history:
• In 1990 and 1991, the Lady Falcons won back-to-back New York State and Federation championships, a feat still celebrated in county sports history.
Those teams set a standard of excellence that echoes into the present, and in 2024 and 2025, the program reached new heights once again with back-to-back state championships – including a Class AAA title in 2025 behind standout player Julia Scott.
Softball and Other Girls Sports
While softball has yet to bring home a state title, the girls softball team made its first ever Final Four appearance in 2024 – a historic milestone for the program.
Albertus Magnus also fields girls teams in cross country, track & field, volleyball, tennis, golf, and lacrosse. Many of these teams may not make headlines every year, but they provide competitive opportunities and build confidence, teamwork, and lifelong skills for
all their athletes.
Why This Deserves More Recognition
Despite decades of achievement – from the Hall of Fame-worthy teams of the early 1990s to the state championship runs of the 2020s – girls sports at Albertus Magnus often don’t receive the same level of media attention or public accolades as boys teams. Yet the level of success – championships, national rankings, All-State honors, collegiate athletes, and community leadership – is every bit as impressive.
Conclusion
Albertus Magnus girls sports are not just successful – they are historic, inspiring, and emblematic of excellence in high school athletics. Their stories of hard work, teamwork, and triumph span generations and deserve to be celebrated just as loudly as any other athletic achievement.
Go Falcon girls!
