My solo exhibition is entitled “Africa: 24/7: The Legacy of Black Visual Culture” exhibited by photographer Collette V. Fournier. “Africa: 24/7: The Legacy of Black Visual Culture” encapsulates documentary photographic images captured in Ghana, W. Africa over four visits during 2007, 2020, 2017 and 2025. As an artist, photographing against the backdrop of a third world environment is very exciting to my eye. The ambient lighting seems to soften the colors and simultaneously make them bolder in the printed image. While touring through this huge continent there was activity everywhere and every moment of the day and night, hence the title “Africa: 24/7”. With such a bleak history of Enslavement, The Gold Coast of Africa doesn’t sleep, as there is too much to do! Ghanaians gained their independence in 1960. Some of the children are in school from the age of three and the government provides for the children’s education. Africans work night and day to keep their country strong and independent. People are on the roads, in the villages, businesses, and schools, day and night transversing the country.

I will display (20) recent works photographed in Ghana, W. Africa in March 2025 and (5) works from W. Africa (2017, 2010) in the Fall of 2025, a total of 20 – 26 prints. I have arranged for assistance transporting and returning my photography images and assistance with installation. I will be present at the artist’s reception on Sunday, Nov. 9th and will supply the funds for the artist’s reception.

My sponsors are The CEJJES Institute and The Gordon Center for the Black Culture and Arts of Rockland County, NY.

Respectfully Submitted,

Collette Fournier Photography
