FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nanuet, NY: Senator Bill Weber and Assemblyman Patrick Carroll, along with Haverstraw Supervisor Howard Phillips, and members of the Soto family gathered today to unveil the Hector L. Soto Memorial Highway sign at the corner of Route 202 and Rosman Road in Haverstraw.
The highway renaming was made possible through legislation sponsored by Senator Weber (Senate bill S1949B) and Assemblyman Carroll (Assembly Bill A4041B), which passed on June 10, 2025, and was signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul on September 10, 2025.
Hector L. Soto was a U.S. Air Force veteran and Vietnam servicemember. He served for 36 years with the Town of Haverstraw Police Department, rising to the rank of Administrative Detective. After retiring in 2007, he continued his public service as a Haverstraw Town Councilman. Soto passed away on April 21, 2023, at the age of 76.
Senator Weber stated, “Hector Soto embodied a lifetime of service to his country, his community, and the people of Haverstraw. From the United States Air Force to the Haverstraw Police Department and later as a Town Councilman, he consistently put others before himself. Naming this stretch of Route 202 in his memory ensures that future generations will remember this lifelong public servant.”

Assemblyman Carroll added, “Today, we unveiled the sign renaming a stretch of Route 202 in Haverstraw in honor of Hector Soto. Hector served his community and our country for decades in the United States Air Force, with the Haverstraw Police Department, and as a Haverstraw Town Councilman. This is the least we can do to honor an individual who means so much to Haverstraw and Rockland County.”

State and local officials, family members, and community residents attended the ceremony to celebrate Soto’s decades of dedication, leadership, and service.
