Troop K Community Stabilization Unit Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon and Narcotics Arrest

On November 17, 2025, at approximately 3:35 p.m., members of the Troop K Community Stabilization Unit, along with State Police at Poughkeepsie, conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling westbound on Main Street in the City of Poughkeepsie for violations of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

The vehicle briefly complied but then fled, prompting a short pursuit that ended when it sideswiped an occupied vehicle, forcing it into another occupied vehicle, before ultimately coming to rest. The driver and sole occupant, identified as Shamar Parker, 39, of Poughkeepsie, NY, was taken into custody without further incident. The occupants of the other vehicles declined medical attention at the scene.

A probable cause search yielded a quantity of narcotics on Parker’s person, as well as a loaded, stolen 9MM handgun and drug paraphernalia within the vehicle.

Parker was arrested and charged with the following:

• Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree, a Class C felony
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 5th Degree, a Class D felony
• Criminal Possession of a Firearm, a Class E felony
• Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th Degree, a Class E felony
• Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, a Class A misdemeanor
• Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia 2nd Degree, a Class A misdemeanor
• Reckless Endangerment 2nd Degree, a Class A misdemeanor
• Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle 3rd Degree, a Class A misdemeanor
• Multiple New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law violations

Parker was arraigned before the City of Poughkeepsie Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center.
