This summer has been an unforgettable season of service, learning, and accomplishment for everyone involved in the Rockland Conservation & Service Corps (RCSC).
This year, 26 dedicated corps members completed 9100 hours of service across 11 sites countywide, each offering its own unique challenges and opportunities. Their efforts reinforce that RCSC is far more than a summer program—it is a mission-driven experience that empowers young people to step forward, take initiative, and protect the natural resources we depend on as a community. Whether constructing trails, improving wildlife habitats, restoring creeks, monitoring water quality, or designing tools to help municipalities meet environmental standards, our members embraced hands-on work that built confidence, leadership, and environmental awareness. These experiences not only enrich their summer; they lay the groundwork for future careers and lifelong advocacy.
Our members also gained valuable experience and professional connections through partnerships with organizations such as the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Rockland, Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University, and the Rockland County Division of Environmental Resources. These collaborations have helped deepen their understanding of environmental issues while exposing them to potential pathways in conservation, science, and public service.
As I look back on the season, I am grateful for the passion and energy each member contributed to the program. Their commitment has made a real and lasting difference throughout Rockland County, leaving our parks, waterways, and public spaces stronger and more resilient. The dedication they demonstrated this summer reflects the values that have guided RCSC since its founding and continues to inspire the future of our conservation efforts.
Now, as our season winds down, I’m excited to invite you to our Summer Celebration, where members will share demonstrations, displays, and creative presentations highlighting their accomplishments.
